Inclusive employment: a short introductory guide on participatory approaches for person-centred evaluations is a practical toolkit developed as part of the Creating Opportunities through Local Innovation Fellowships (COLIF) programme, a pilot research initiative funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Creating Opportunities, Improving Outcomes Fund (Grant Reference: ES/X004198/1).
This toolkit is a final output of the COLIF project and has been designed to complement the project's Inclusive Employment Guide.
The toolkit introduces participatory life-course approaches that place people with lived experience at the centre of evaluation and learning. It provides practical guidance for organisations, practitioners, policymakers and researchers seeking to understand the impact of inclusive employment initiatives through the perspectives of those directly affected by them.
Drawing on participatory methods and life-course approaches, the guide outlines key principles for capturing individual experiences, journeys and outcomes over time. By centring lived experience, these methods help organisations gain deeper insight into what enables inclusive employment and identify opportunities to strengthen policy and practice.
This resource can be used alongside the other outputs from the COLIF project:
• Inclusive Employment Guide
• COLIF Project Report
• Explosive Learning Solutions case study
Together, these resources provide evidence, practical tools and real-world examples to support the development, delivery and evaluation of inclusive employment initiatives.
Download the toolkit to explore how participatory life-course methods can support person-centred evaluation and ensure the voices of people with lived experience inform the future of inclusive employment.
